Photogeneration of DiNuclear Metal Carbonyls Containing a Metal-Metal Triple Bond.

Abstract

Irradiation of ((n5-C5H5)M(CO)3)2 (M=Cr, Mo, W) yields the M triple bonded complexes of the formula ((n5-C5H5)M(CO)2)2. The triple bonded complexes for M=Mo, tungsten react rapidly with CO to regenerate the single bonded complexes and with acetylenes to give complexes having a tetrahedrane-like M2C2 core. The Cr triple bond complex back reacts with CO at high CO pressure.
