Field Experiment on a Prefabricated Expandable Foam/Wood Structure

Abstract

This report, the third in a series of report covering development of multi-purpose structural components, documents the findings, results, and conclusions of a field experiment to fabricate and erect the components of a prefabricated foam/wood theater of operations (TO) structure. The floor, wall, and roof panels were fabricated off-site and shipped without damage to the erection site; the foundation bents and roof trusses were fabricated on-site. These multi-purpose structural components were then assembled and erected on a building site at Fort Belvoir, VA. Interior finishing and services were provided to enable the completed structure to be used as a classroom, as well as a demonstration facility.
