Characteristics of Polar Ice Observed During the 1957 Arctic Cruise of the USS NAUTILUS.

Abstract

Sea-ice features over that portion of the Polar Pack transited during the 1957 Arctic cruise of the NAUTILUS are discussed and described. Latitudinal and regional comparisons of sea-ice features are made. Data collection methods and instrumentation are described. Recommendations are advanced for future use of the nuclear submarine as a data-collection vehicle. (Author)
