Fuels and Lubricants

Abstract

A method is prescribed for evaluating military fuel and lubricant compatibility with Army vehicles and a method for sampling and spectrometric analysis of lubricants for symptoms of metal wear or contamination. Equipment and facilities and basic test requirements are described. Tests for octane and cetane requirements; engine, transmission, and vehicle compatibility; cold starting; and hydraulic, gear oil, and grease systems. A chart is included of typical fuels and lubricants for Army vehicles and equipment.
