Effect of Long Term Low-Level Gamma Radiation on Thermal Sensitivity of RDX/HMX Mixtures

Abstract

HMX, RDX, HMX/RDX mixtures and Comp B were subjected to low level long-term Co60 gamma radiation (225 R/hr for 90, 120, and 150 days). Differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, weight loss determination, and vacuum stability, infrared spectrometry, impact sensitivity and explosion temperature tests were used. It was found that the thermal stability and sensitivity of these explosives were not adversely affected by the exposures.
