Numerical Studies in Gas Dynamics.

Abstract

A survey is made of the overall development of the direct simulation Monte Carlo method. This is a method for the computation of gas flows at the molecular level. The major advances have related to the extension of the method to cover some continuum flows, small disturbance flows and reacting gas flows. All these require very extensive computation and dedicated minicomputers have been shown to be one or two orders of magnitude more cost-effective than large general purpose machines in conventional computer centers.
