PAR Auroral Study. Volume I.

Abstract

The report describes the data collected in connection with research of aurora borealis effects on the performance of a phased array radar. The primary objective of the study was to advance the understanding of the auroral phenomenon and of its interactions with radar. A multi-megawatt phased array radar was used to collect large quantities of high resolution auroral backscatter data with simultaneous tracking of a number of selected satellites. The report provides a detailed description of the data collection process and data reduction techniques in connection with Sep 75 auroral storms. (Author)
