The Role of Passive Film Growth Kinetics and Properties in Stress Corrosion and Crevice Corrosion Susceptibility.

Abstract

?27This report consists of four parts as follows: (1) A study of the influence of Mo in Fe-Mo alloys on crevice corrosion. It was found that >5% Mo is needed to affect repassivation in a crevice. (2) The description of a new technique for measuring repassivation rates in a crevice. (3) A description of alloys prepared to simulate the composition of metal near grain boundaries of sensitized austenitic stainless steel. These alloys are used for studies of the effect of sensitization on repassivation kinetics. (4) A review of new approaches in the study of localized corrosion.
