FARE Camouflage Development. Volume I. Summary and Recommendations.

Abstract

This report summarizes the main results and conclusions of a camouflage system definition and the field evaluation of camouflage applicable to Forward Area Refueling Equipment (FARE). The summary is broken into three parts: (1) first, a description of the role of FARE in close support of airmobile missions, and a rationale for the use of provision of camouflage to lessen the vulnerability of the FARE in the performance of that mission: (2) a program recommendation section outlining requirements for the total system required to defeat sensor threats, to include the adaption of nets to FARE operations; decoys; shape disruption; and protection from detection by thermal imaging systems in the future; (3) a survey of analytic models used in this study, test results, and detailed descriptions of materiel and countersurveillance parameters applicable to FARE. A glossary of abbreviations and definition of terms used in this study is included.
