Digital Cartographic Study and Benchmark.

Abstract

The work and findings of Phase C is to implement and test--on fast, microprogrammable processors--the stereo matching algorithm that was designed and analyzed in AD's A035 155 and A035 156. This implementation was performed in terms of a benchmark to shed some light on the practicality of such a concept and to uncover the advantages and disadvantages of this particular kind of parallel processing application. The results stem from actually performing the benchmark rather than from a paper study outlining the approach to be taken. The benchmark was evaluated both in terms of its speed and accuracy. It was found that it takes about 11 hours of CDC 6600 processing to complete the correlation and matching of a typical 9x9 inch frame stereo overlap area, while the benchmark implementation can process the same area in a little over one-half hour.
