A Class of Lanchester Attrition Processes.

Abstract

This paper derives from physical assumptions a class of stochastic attrition processes, some of which are analogous to the deterministic models of F. Lanchester. Shooting weapons are classified as having independent or proportional engagement initiation and as being single-kill or multiple kill. Several special cases of the generalized process are examined in detail and related to previous attrition models. Computational problems, fire allocation, and some related phenomena are also treated.
