Bidynamic Reverberation from the Ocean Bottom

Abstract

An expression is developed based upon the ray-wave synthesis generalization of the Kirchoff-Helmholtz acoustic field equation. This expression represents the signal received for the case of an arbitrary narrow band transmission, moving transmitter and receiver, arbitrary transmit and receive beam patterns, a smoothly varying sound speed profile and includes scattering from a rough bottom. The mean and correlation functions of this field are computed and used to calculate the generalized instantaneous power spectrum (GIPS) and the spectral variance of the received signal.
