An Algorithm for Recognition of Russian Characters Using Correlation.
Abstract
An algorithm for an optical character recognition system that reads Russian letters was designed with spatial Fourier transform components as feature indicators. The algorithm employs crosscorrelation of isolated prototype letters with data letters as the recognition scheme. A flying spot scanner and a PDP-12 were used to transform the letters and make correlation calculations. Only partial testing has been made on the system as it requires 25 minutes for each identification in its present form. These partial results are encouraging and testing should continue.
