The Economics of Applying Suppressive Shielding to the M483A1 Improved Conventional Munition Loading, Assembling, and Packing Facility

Abstract

An entirely new facility to produce the 155-mm M483A1 improved conventional munition is being planned. This report describes the proposed processes and design layouts for the plant and develops new layouts using the benefits of suppressive shield technology. Cost analyses are performed which indicate that suppressive shielding layouts not only meet all production and safety requirements but they are also the most cost effective design. Savings from the use of suppressive shielding are estimated at $4,591,309.
