Synthesis of Mercuric 5-Nitrotetrazole

Abstract

Initial tests indicate Mercury 5-Nitrotetrazole is a promising replacement for lead azide in detonators. During the course of preparation of this material for testing, several improvements in the original synthesis were made. A reliable good yield procedure for mercury 5-nitrotetrazole is now available.
