Sound Level Testing of the DESCO Prototype Helium Oxygen Helmet

Abstract

A Prototype Helium-Oxygen Diving Helmet was subjected to sound level testing on a specially built acoustical manikin at the U.S. Navy Experimental Diving Unit. The helmet was tested in both the semi-closed circuit (venturi) and open-circuit modes. The sound levels existing in the helmet were found to be well into the hearing damage risk levels during all test conditions.
