Variational Principles of Continuum Mechanics (An Analytical Point of View).

Abstract

Methods of functional analysis are used to calssify known variational principles of continuum mechanics of solids, and to derive new principles. Boundary value problems of continuum mechanics are shown to be representable in this formalism. Applications are given to the general theory of non-linear equations occurring in classical mechanics.
