An Alerting System for a Database Management System.

Abstract

This thesis describes an alerting system for a Database Management System which provides the end users with the facilities to monitor in a dynamic fashion the changes being made on the information, in order to perform some predetermined actions whenever certain conditions become true. The work includes the description of a simplified implementation of an alerting system made on the Wharton Alerting Network Database (WAND) which gives the foundation for a full implementation on a properly shared database system of the kind described by CODASYL DATABASE TASK GROUP in its April 71 report.
