Design of a Circulation Control Airfoil Model for Evaluation in the Transonic Wind Tunnel.

Abstract

A circulation control (CC) airfoil model able to withstand high aerodynamically induced loads and high internal pressure loads was designed, manufactured, and structurally evaluated. The CC airfoil, with a span approximately three times that of any CC model heretofore evaluated, successfully performed at air speeds up to Mach 0.8. Structural and design problems encountered, their resolution, and salient features of the design are discussed.
