Emerging Role of the Army Family Physician in Primary Health Care Delivery.

Abstract

The disappearance of primary care provides and overspecialization of physicians has led to a crisis in ambulatory care. In response, an ambitious Family Practice program has been developed in the face of hostile specialists and post was resource constraints. Material was gathered from site visits to Army Programs, medical literature, Family Practice assemblies, presentations, OTSG documents and the author's four and one-half years involvement in his role as Consultant in Family Practice to the Surgeon General. Success depends upon a genuine need and a resonable solution. Success, likewise, depends upon command support, dedicated capable staff, talented residents, adequate resources, teaching depth, credibility with the residents and the rest of the medical team and with patients.
