Design Concepts for a Free Surface Flow Test Tunnel.

Abstract

A proposal was made to build a free surface flow test facility at the Garfield Thomas Water Tunnel. This facility was to be built by the conversion of the rectangular test section of one of the existing tunnels. As the project was begun a literature search was conducted to determine the state-of-the-art of free surface test sections. A testing program was then initiated and some design ideas were considered. This is a report of all the relevant work that has been completed to date. (Author)
