Thiamine Hydrochloride as an Adjunct to Pralidoxime in a Simulated Therapeutic Setting.

Abstract

Five subjects received a 30-minute intravenous infusion containing 1000 mg of pralidoxime chloride. On a second occasion, 200 mg of thiamine hydrochloride was added to the infusion. When thiamine was in the infusion, plasma concentration of oxime was significantly higher and the renal excretion of oxime was significantly less in the first 3 hours after the infusion. These data suggest that thiamine inhibits the renal excretion of the oxime. It is not known whether the addition of thiamine to oxime will add to the therapeutic benefits of pralidoxime against anticholinesterase compound intoxication. (Author)
