Experimental Investigation of Temperature Regime of Shallow Convective Holes (Eksperimental 'noe Issledovanie Termicheskogo Rezhima Negulubokoi Konvektiruiushchei Skvazhiny),

Abstract

Two assumptions are adopted at the present time, the borehole temperature being identified with the temperature of the surrounding rock: (1) the temperature of the borehole and of the rock at the respective depths tend to become equal after the drilling process has been completed; (2) processes substantially affecting the temperature field in the bOREHOLE DO NOT TAKE PLACE IN THE LATTER. There is a thermodynamic basis for the first assumption, but the second occasions serious objections. This report discusses the second assumption. (Author)
