Optical Hazards of Weather Service Instrumentation, January 1977.

Abstract

A nonionizing radiation protection special study of five types of weather instruments was performed by the US Army Environmental Hygiene Agency during January 1977. It was determined that the three ceilometers, one transmissometer and a laser weather identifier did not represent optical hazards under normal use for expected viewing conditions. However, during maintenance or testing, it was conceivable that optically aided viewing within the beams of these instruments could be hazardous. (Author)
