Standardization of a Safing and Arming Device for Artillery Ammunition

Abstract

This report summarizes the previous efforts performed on the standardization of an S and A device for use on spin stabilized artillery ammunition. The purpose is to replace existing S and A devices with a single S and A, minimize proliferation and gain the economic and logistic benefits derived from standardization. Efforts were coordinated with other government agencies to develop and establish the physical and military requirements. Design studies were initiated on the current S and A devices. Two or more with the most potential for use as the all purpose device will be configured, tested and evaluated. Selection will be based on cost effectiveness, compliance with the requirements and predicted or demonstrated reliability.
