Ground-to-Air Communications Using Line-of-Sight in the High Frequency Band.

Abstract

A relatively straight forward approach is presented for estimating ground-to-air communications capability using line-of-sight in the HF band. The approach allows for the incorportation of a numerically determined antenna radiation pattern. Two programs for use on desk-top type of computers are provided: one for determining the line-of-sight range to an aircraft and the other for predicting the received signal power level at the aircraft. Example solutions are given. (Author)
