Glycol Quenching of 7050-T736 Aluminum Alloy Plate.

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the effect of glycol quenching on the mechanical properties of 7050-T736 plate as compared with water quenching. Results indicate glycol quenching does not achieve equivalent properties in plate up to 50.8 mm (2 in.). Use of glycol quenchants for 7050 plate is not recommended unless reduction in design allowables can be tolerated. (Author)
