Ground-to-Ground Target Detection in Tropic Forests

Abstract

This document provides standard objective procedures for measuring ground-to-ground target detection ranges in tropic forests. Purposes for procedures are to determine the effect of a test item on an observer's ability to detect a standard target in the jungle, or to determine the detectability of a test item emplaced in the jungle. Procedures are provided separately for stationary and moving targets. Procedures may not be applicable when the target to be detected is larger and cumbersome or very small and not capable of movement under its own power. Procedures are an excellent example of objectivity and realism in human factors measurement.
