Abstract

This paper concerns a state space approach to syndrome decoding of binary rate-k/n convolutional codes. State space symmetries of a certain class of codes can be exploited to obtain an exponential reduction of decoder hardware. Aside from these hardware savings, it is felt that the state space formalism developed in this report has some intrinsic value of its own. (Author)
