Integrated DoD Voice and Data Networks and Ground Packet Radio Technology Volume 2. Cost Trends for Large Volume Packet Networks
Abstract
Previous NAC data network studies have revealed the fundamental properties and relative costs of a variety of network architecture alternatives. The cost comparisons were made with a constant backbone subnet average end-to- end delay - a crucial performance parameter. Complex line cost structures were created to accurately model existing and projected tariffs. This study focuses on the packet-switched network approach with all users fully integrated in an overall facility sharing plan. Simplifying assumptions are made throughout so that fundamental design decision tradeoffs can be revealed and so that the sensitivities to cost trends brought about by new technologies can be assessed.
