On Electron Attachment to HBO2.

Abstract

Miller and Gould recently reported measurements in which well-characterized laboratory test flames were seeded with KNO3 and H3BO3. They assume that H3BO3 is rapidly converted within these flames to HBO2. The potassium in KNO3 ionizes, producing free electrons. In this letter, the data are reanalyzed. It is shown that the data are also consistent with the premise that reactions 1 and -1 are equilibrated and that k sub 1 is greater than the value deduced by Miller and Gould.
