Spherical Shields for the Containment of Explosions.

Abstract

Suppressive shields are designed to reduce the effects of an accidental explosion to a safe environment. One of these shields, a two-foot diameter sphere, completely contains the detonation of 1 pound of explosive and will be used to transport or store small quantities of explosives. Two of these shields have been fabricated from different steels and successfully tested, in fact surpassing all design requirements. Both shields have been approved for use in Army Ammunition Plants by the DOD Explosive Safety Board. (Author)
