Blast Parameters of BS-NACO Propellant

Abstract

Experiments were performed with BS-NACO propellant in subscale and full-scale shipping/storage drum configurations and in full-scale conically shaped feed hopper configurations to determine the air-blast pressure and positive impulse resulting from the detonation of the material. Peak pressure and positive impulse were measured in the scaled distance range of approximately the cube root of 2 to 25 ft/lb. TNT equivalency curves for both pressure and impulse were developed as a function of scaled distance. Based on the test results, BS-NACO propellant should be considered QD Class 2 material while in-process.
