Effects of Various Terrain Regions on Tactical Reconnaissance Operations: a Soviet View.

Abstract

This paper attempts to describe and to a lesser degree to analyze the effects which various geographical regions have on Soviet tactical reconaissance operations. It is based on Russian language sources openly published in the Soviet Union. This essay includes descriptions of basic, tactical collection methods and how these methods respond to employment in different terrain areas. This paper concludes with a brief subjective evaluation as to how successfully Soviet tactical reconnaissance units cope with the peculiarities of various terrain conditions. (Author)
