Test Results from a Program Determining the Performance of a Vaned Volute to be Used as a Double Suction Pump Inlet.

Abstract

This report describes the test program for determining the performance of a new type of vaned inlet volute for a double suction pump. The volute was intended for use in a new high speed planing craft waterjet propulsion system currently under development by DTNSRDC. A short description of the volute and the remaining test apparatus, which simulates the flow in the entrance duct of the craft, is included. Results from measurements at various stations throughout the system are presented and discussed, and recommendations for improvements and future studies are made. (Author)
