Toxicological Evaluation of Pyrethroid Insecticide (5-Benzyl-3-Furyl) Methyl-2,2-Dimethyl-3-(2-methylpropenyl) Cyclopropanecarboxylate (Resmethrin)

Abstract

A toxicity evaluation of the technical grade synthetic pyrethroid insecticide (5-benzyl-3-furyl) methyl-2, 2-dimethyl-3-(2-methylpropenyl) cyclopropanecarboxylate (resmethrin) was conducted by this Agency using rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and dogs. The data in these studies indicate that there should be no toxic hazard to humans from topical exposure to resmethrin nor should resmethrin impregnated cloth, at a limited use concentration of 0.25 mg/ sq.cm, and 1 percent resmethrin in pyrax powder cause adverse skin reactions.
