Documentation of Current IDA Computer Material Developed for DCPA. Volume III,

Abstract

In surveying the IDA data files two facts soon became apparent: (1) the data files were quite varied in format and the format of a file while possibly desirable for its original use, was arbitrary for current uses, and (2) it was not possible to trace the source of many data files--there was no well established audit trail from original sources to the present file. In order to usefully document data files three requirements soon became apparent: (1) A standardization of data file formats to the greatest degree consistent with efficient processing of the resulting file, (2) A documentation procedure so the history of the file could be followed, and (3) An efficient way of manipulating and handling data files.
