The Relationship Between Polar Cap Riometer Absorption and Solar Particles.

Abstract

A detailed investigation of the approximate square-root relationship between riometer absorption and solar proton fluxes has been carried out. The relationship is shown to be valid for night as well as day conditions, with differences in the constants. The atmospheric chemistry basis for the differences in the constants is discussed.
