A Study of Stratus Clouds in Central Europe.

Abstract

Surface and rawinsonde observations from six locations in Central Europe were analyzed for the presence of stratus layers. Cloud height, depth, temperature, and stability were determined for each layer. Wind speed and shear associated with each layer were also determined. These data were recorded on magnetic tape and are summarized in detail elsewhere. This report documents the procedures used to produce the tapes and the detailed analysis. It also provides a broad overview of the results of this analysis. (Author)
