Aluminide Coating on Directional Gamma'/Delta Eutectics.

Abstract

The relationships between the process variables and the coating microstructure were studied for aluminide-coated gamma prime/delta directional eutectics. A spectrum of coating microstructures was obtained depending on the choice of the process variables. The process variables were the aluminizing and homogenizing temperatures, the homogenizing time and the activity of aluminum in the coating pack. The microstructures were described with reference to the Ni-Al-Nb ternary phase diagram and the diffusion of the aluminum and the nickel atoms. (Author)
