Initialization of Digital Logic Circuits,

Abstract

The initialization of a digital circuit can often be a complex process. The TEST/80 system being designed by Breuer and Associates is to contain a module for carrying out circuit initialization. Up until now, no algorithm existed which would guarantee constructing an initialization sequence for an arbitrary circuit. This report presents the results of research on developing techniques for inclusion in an initialization module. The techniques that have developed fall into two categories, namely algebraic procedures and prestored synchronizing sequences. Both of these categories can again be subdivided into two categories, namely exact procedures and heuristic procedures. This report illustrates and describes the various procedures we have developed, as well as present a flow chart of the initialization process being proposed. The appendix deals with implementation techniques for our algebraic procedures.
