Constant-Q Spectral Analysis by Means of an Approximate Fast Fourier Transform Technique.

Abstract

A technique for achieving constant-Q spectral analysis by means of an approximate fast Fourier transform (FFT) is presented. Some underlying theory of the approximate FFT and of constant-Q spectral analysis is given. The benefits and drawbacks of this technique are presented. Initial outputs of the technique from a FORTRAN-based Univac 1108 program show that this technique for constant-Q spectral analysis works, and they also illustrate some of the basic characteristics of constant-Q spectral analysis.
