Complete Compensation of Self-Phase Modulation in Cesium Vapor at 1.06 Microns.

Abstract

We have observed a complete cancellation of self-phase modulation at 1.06 micrometers pulses propagating through cesium vapor. The negative nonlinear refractive index responsible for this is measured as n2/N=-(2.5 + or - .5) x 10 to the -30th power esu, in good agreement with the theoretical value-2.62 x 10 to the -30th power esu.
