Manual Nut Splitters for Diver Use.

Abstract

A diver-operated, compact, manual nut splitter was designed, built, and tested that can split stainless steel nuts (R sub C 50 hardness) up to 1 inch across the flats. The nuts can be split in 30 to 45 seconds with a powered wrench or in 3 minutes manually. Four tool kits, each consisting of the nut splitter and spare parts were delivered to the Navy Underwater Construction Teams for their use.
