Time Division Multiplex Frame Synchronization: Acquisition, Maintenance and Reacquisition

Abstract

A technique that can be employed to analyze the performance of proposed frame synchronization methods is presented. Candidate frame sync algorithms have two modes of operation: acquisition and verification. A time- invariant Markov chain approach is used to model the state of the synchronization process for any time period beyond an assumed initial state. An example problem, demonstrating a number of special, computational adaptations, was worked. Although the use of only a single sync bit per frame is illustrated, the approach can be extended to a broader class of problems.
