Test and Evaluation of Night Vision Optical Systems: Third Generation Goggle Objective Lens.

Abstract

Four objective lens designs for third generation (GEN 3) image intensifier tubes are analyzed. The lenses are coupled to the 0.255-inch thick photocathode faceplate of GEN 3 tubes and optical performance is studied in the response region from 0.7 microns to 0.9 microns. Other aspects of design considered in overall evaluation include projected manufacturing costs, as well as the size and weight of the lenses. Based on the data contained in this report, recommendations are presented for the further development of third generation night vision optical systems. (Author)
