Toward the Development of a Data Translation Methodology and Selection of Target Database Structures.

Abstract

Progress has been made toward development of a data translation methodology and selection of optimal target databases at the University of Michigan. A model for implementing data translators has been formulated and verified through the development of a series of increasingly general data translators. Mechanisms have been developed for prescribing logical data transformations--- Restructuring Specifications--and physical data descriptions---a Stored-Data Definition Language. Finally, results have been obtained on the evaluation, selection, and optimization of target database structures. (Author)
