Measurements on a Circular Plate Immersed in Muzzle Flow

Abstract

Results are given of pressure measurements on the surface of a simplistic muzzle brake for a 20mm gun. The pressure variations for about 400 microseconds after shot ejection were obtained for a number of axial brake locations. Peak overpressure and steady-state overpressure levels are presented; the steady-state values are compared with theory and agreement is good.
