Forty Kilovolt Megawatt Average POWER Thyratron (MAPS 40),

Abstract

The purpose of this 12 month program is to develop a 40 kilovolt-megawatt average power thyratron. Electrical objectives are to swtich 40 kiloamperes at 40 kilovolts with a pulse width of 10 microseconds and a repetition rate of 125 hertz. A thyratron design to meet these objectives has been evolved. The design has been evaluated for thermal and mechanical characteristics. Two preliminary devices have been fabricated and tested at ECOM at 70% of the average power level objectives. (Author)
