High Abrasion Oil Resistant Rubber Compound for Direct Molded Sole Combat Footwear

Abstract

Several high abrasion and oil resistant rubber soling compounds have been developed and evaluated to improve the durability of the heel and sole components of the all leather Direct Molded Sole (DMS) combat boot. One of the compounds evaluated is based on chlorosulfonated polyethylene type (Hypalon) elastomer and another on blends of nitrile-butadiene (NBR) /Hypalon/ cis- polybutadiene type rubbers. The compounds exhibited excellent properties exceeding the performance requirements of the then standard all leather DMS combat footwear. The abrasive index requirements, for instance, of the standard compound have been exceeded by almost 200%.
